Ode to Nothing Demo session (14th of July 2002)
The Ode to Nothing Demo Session was recorded at Air MS studios in Montreal. The story is quite anecdotic; I had met a girl from Austria, who was spending two weeks in Montreal as a part of a student exchange program that a friend of mine had participated in. So she was staying at that friend of mine's place, who was basically hosting parties every few days that summer. It was basically summer-love-at-first-sight. Unfortunately, she was leaving soon, going to Toronto for a few days, then off to Austria. I figured if I found money by the end of that week, I could maybe follow her!
So I called up Mike, (drummer) and told him we needed to urgently go into studio!? To make a long story short, we spent hours on the phone to try to find a studio that would take us in right away at a good price, we went in, recorded 5 songs in one day (hence the very poor quality), and bought tons of blank CD's to make copies and sell around. All my friends helped us out, for the Cd burnings( we had 3-4 people spending their days just making copies!), printing and cutting of the "booklet" etc., and I have to give them credit, cause none of it would have been possible without them.
I never managed to get enough money to see that girl again, but it did wake the band up to get in studio and actually hold a physical proof of our efforts. We used to have a cover made for the CD, we sold it around by basically walking up to people in streets with a CD player and let them buy if they liked what they heard. I have no idea where that cover is now, maybe Mike still has it, Ill have to check!
